Maine pound shows off rare orange, live lobsters

YORK, Maine – Two orange lobsters that look as though they've just emerged from a steamer pot are definitely alive and pinching in Maine.

Jeremy Mirick, co-owner of the lobster pound at the York Fitness Center in York, Maine, says the two orange lobsters in his tank aren't for sale.

Officials at the New England Aquarium say orange lobsters are a one in 30 million rarity, but they've gotten reports of 10 to 12 of them in the region in the last two weeks. The reason is unknown, though color variations usually are genetic.

Spokesman Tony LaCasse told the Portsmouth Herald that he thinks the orange lobsters, which have shown up on Cape Cod, Massachusetts' south shore and in Maine, are coming in from a Canadian distributor.

Mirick said his lobsters came from Harpswell, Maine.

Giant lobster roll rolls into Portland, Maine

PORTLAND, Maine – What could be the world's longest lobster roll turned out to be even longer than expected.

The giant sandwich unveiled Sunday during Maine's Old Port Festival in Portland measured 61 feet 9.5 inches — more than a foot longer than organizers were aiming for. It also included a few extra pounds of lobster meat — 48 in all, plus four gallons of Miracle Whip and a special blend of herbs and seasonings.

A local roller derby team helped carry the sandwich to the festival, where it was cut into sections and sold to raise money for a youth association.

The association intends to get the roll certified by Guinness World Records.

Topless cafe in Maine gives neighbors the jitters

VASSALBORO, Maine – Cup size has more than one meaning at a new central Maine coffeehouse. Servers are topless at the Grand View Topless Coffee Shop, which opened its doors Monday on a busy road in Vassalboro. A sign outside says, "Over 18 only." Another says, "No cameras, no touching, cash only."

On Tuesday, two men sipped coffee at a booth while three topless waitresses and a bare-chested waiter stood nearby. Topless waitress Susie Wiley said men, women and couples have stopped by.

The coffee shop raised the ire of dozens of residents when it went before the town planning board last month. Town officials said the coffee shop met the letter of the law.Political Roast----Premium Domain Names----Comedy Videos---Comedy Songs----Advertise Here and 24 Other Sites!
