Halloween Ghost Story Axe Murder Hollow

Susan and Ned were driving through a wooded empty section of highway. Lightning flashed, thunder roared, the sky went dark in the torrential downpour.
“We’d better stop,” said Susan.
Ned nodded his head in agreement. He stepped on the brake, and suddenly the car started to slide on the slick pavement. They plunged off the road and slid to a halt at the bottom of an incline.
Pale and shaking, Ned quickly turned to check if Susan was all right. When she nodded, Ned relaxed and looked through the rain soaked windows.
“I’m going to see how bad it is,” he told Susan, and when out into the storm. She saw his blurry figure in the headlight, walking around the front of the car. A moment later, he jumped in beside her, soaking wet.
“The car’s not badly damaged, but we’re wheel-deep in mud,” he said. “I’m going to have to go for help.”
Susan swallowed nervously. There would be no quick rescue here. He told her to turn off the headlights and lock the doors until he returned.
Axe Murder Hollow. Although Ned hadn’t said the name aloud, they both knew what he had been thinking when he told her to lock the car. This was the place where a man had once taken an axe and hacked his wife to death in a jealous rage over an alleged affair. Supposedly, the axe-wielding spirit of the husband continued to haunt this section of the road.
Outside the car, Susan heard a shriek, a loud thump, and a strange gurgling noise. But she couldn’t see anything in the darkness.
Frightened, she shrank down into her seat. She sat in silence for a while, and then she noticed another sound. Bump. Bump. Bump. It was a soft sound, like something being blown by the wind.
Suddenly, the car was illuminated by a bright light. An official sounding voice told her to get out of the car. Ned must have found a police officer. Susan unlocked the door and stepped out of the car. As her eyes adjusted to the bright light, she saw it.
Hanging by his feet from the tree next to the car was the dead body of Ned. His bloody throat had been cut so deeply that he was nearly decapitated. The wind swung his corpse back and forth so that it thumped against the tree. Bump. Bump. Bump.
Susan screamed and ran toward the voice and the light. As she drew close, she realized the light was not coming from a flashlight. Standing there was the glowing figure of a man with a smile on his face and a large, solid, and definitely real axe in his hands. She backed away from the glowing figure until she bumped into the car.
“Playing around when my back was turned,” the ghost whispered, stroking the sharp blade of the axe with his fingers. “You’ve been very naughty.”
The last thing she saw was the glint of the axe blade in the eerie, incandescent light.

Why Apple’s Steve Jobs’ Car Never Had a License Plate

California – How did Jobs get away with not having a license plate on his car? According to a former employee named Jon Callas who is now the chief technology officer at Entrust, Jobs realized that California law gave the owners of new cars six months to obtain a license plate. Armed with that knowledge, Jobs made a deal with his leasing company to get a new silver Mercedes SL55 AMG every six months, making sure that it was always legal for him to have an unmarked car. “It’s a little game I play,” Jobs said to remain anonymous. Biographer Isaacson pointed out to Jobs before his death, driving an unlicensed car is much more conspicuous than just putting a dang license plate on his car like everyone else. In response, Steve Jobs just shrugged. Think Different.  More

It’s Art: Performance Artist Gives Birth in Art Gallery

New York – A performance artist who said giving birth is the highest form of art has delivered a baby boy – inside a Brooklyn art gallery. The Microscope Gallery in Bushwick said Marni Kotak gave birth to a healthy infant, weighing 9 pounds, 2 ounces, and 21 inches long. The 36-year-old artist had set up a home-birth center at the gallery, turning the space into a brightly decorated bedroom with ocean-blue walls and photo-imprinted pillows. She created a home birthing room with her grandmother’s bed and her old rocking chair. It didn’t say how many people witnessed the birth or give any other detail, although before the birth the exhibition description had said visitors should be prepared to find themselves suddenly as witnesses to a live birth.  more

Teen violence linked to heavy soda diet

USA – Researchers in the United States said they had found a shocking association — if only a statistical one — between violence by teenagers and the amount of soda they drank. High-school students in inner-city Boston who consumed more than five cans of non-diet, fizzy soft drinks every week were between nine and 15-percent likelier to engage in an aggressive act compared with counterparts who drank less. “What we found was that there was a strong relationship between how many soft drinks that these inner-city kids consumed and how violent they were, not only in violence against peers but also violence in dating relationships, against siblings,” said David Hemenway, a professor at the Harvard School of Public Health.  more

The attention is drawn of all members of staff to the need to switch off unwanted lights. By Order of The Master of The Household. Man throws a frozen armadillo at a 57-year-old woman

Dallas, Texas – Dallas police are on the lookout for a man who could face assault charges for throwing a frozen armadillo at a 57-year-old woman near Dallas. The woman met the man in a parking lot to purchase the armadillo carcass, which she planned to eat. During a fight over its price, he hit her with the animal in the leg and the chest, leaving bruises on her body. Texas law prohibits the sale of live armadillos, but a few Texans still go after their meat. Those people who eat armadillo meat will find that thorough cooking should make the meat noninfectious of leprosy. However, the greatest hazard of being infected may be encountered during cleaning and dressing of the animals.  more

Police Remove Halloween Decoration From Home, Racist

New York – A Halloween display at a home in Brooklyn has been taken down by police after some called it a symbol of racism. A scarecrow painted to have dark skin was hanging by a rope from a tree in front of a home in Kensington. Some neighbors say the homeowner gets in the spirit of Halloween every year and believe he meant no harm by the display. But one councilman argued it was reminiscent of a lynching. “It’s unacceptable,” said Charles Barron (D-Brooklyn, Picture). “You ain’t speaking for this whole community because some people on this block came by and said it was offensive. They came and said it was offensive. It’s not a cool decoration.”  more

Florida to Bring Back Firing Squads

Tallahassee, Florida – Saying it’s time to stop letting convicted killers get off that easy, a Florida state lawmaker wants to use firing squads or the electric chair for those on death row. Rep. Brad Drake filed a bill this week that would end the use of lethal injection in Florida executions. Instead, those with a death sentence would choose between electrocution or a firing squad. Drake, a Republican, said the idea came to him after having a conversation with a constituent at a Waffle House over the legal battles associated with the Sept. 28 execution of Manuel Valle. Valle’s lawyers tried to stop the execution by arguing that a new lethal drug cocktail would cause him pain and therefore constitute cruel and unusual punishment.  more
